Alguns sabem, outros não: o Sinuca embaixo d’água foi uma das partes da dissertação de mestrado que defendi em setembro. Junto com ele, havia um artigo sobre o que chamei de personagem ausente (nesse post falei um pouco sobre isso, embora o assunto fosse, na época, apenas uma vaga idéia). É curioso ir para uma banca de dissertação com o formato romance + parte teórica, e obviamente os professores tampouco estão habituados a isso, de modo que eu temia muito que toda a discussão fosse focada no capítulo teórico da dissertação e que o romance passasse em branco. Acredite, já vi isso acontecer. Bom, no fim das contas, não foi assim que se passou, e os comentários sobre o Sinuca foram bem interessantes, sobretudo os da Janea Tutikian (devo dizer, sem falsa humildade, que o pessoal da banca gostou muito do romance, o que me tranqüilizou imensamente, e ainda mais levando em conta que a versão apresentada era uma versão que eu já nem gostava mais. Ui ui ui, esses escritores).
Mas o mais interessante foi a reação que o último capítulo causou na Jane: ela odiou. Ela disse que parecia aqueles histórias que nos envolvem até o limite para depois acabarem num “então era tudo um sonho” ou sei lá. Resumindo, ela argumentou, com bastante propriedade, que aquele capítulo estragava tudo. Ok, só pra esclarecer: não era um sonho, mas era uma espécie de interferência do autor que me parecia bonito e eficiente na época. Só que infelizmente - ou felizmente, porque pior seria ter percebido isso ainda mais tarde, ou simplesmente não ter percebido de todo - o capítulo não pôde resistir à distância temporal e à argumentação da Jane. Isso não significa, claro, simplesmente retirá-lo e fazer do antepenúltimo um último. O novo último precisa ganhar a cara de último. De toda a maneira, todos os capítulos estão virando outra coisa. E com isso vejo que até os personagem se transformam (o que prova ao descrentes que a forma define o conteúdo): o menos inteligente de todos torna-se mais perspicaz (descoberta número sei lá o que: narradores burros é coisa inadmissível) e o mais seco, por sua vez, está levemente poético.

Engraçado essa conversa de forma e conteúdo. Apesar dos argumentos “prós” sou um pouco contrário a esse ponto de vista. Pergunto se o contrário é viável: o conteúdo muda a forma? Ou não, ele é somente alguma substância maleável que fica o tempo inteiro se modificando ao sabor da forma? No final Carol, parece-me que quem faz o conteúdo sou eu, que estou lendo o seu romance, e não você, que está fazendo a forma.

Fiquei tentado em dar um pitaco nessa discussão de forma e conteúdo. É a estrutura que define o sentido? Ou seria a forma um reflexo do conteúdo, como bem distingue Platão em “A República” quando fala do Mundo das Idéias e do Mundo Concreto. Acredito que em um livro, a despeito da tentativa do autor em estabelecer uma forma para seu conteúdo, é o conteúdo do leitor que define a forma. Suas idiossincrasias, experiências, capacidades etc. Para mim, está bem claro que a forma é moldada ao sabor do conteúdo.
