Eu fico mesmo nervosa se me perguntam de influência. Influência é, além de livro, filme, mundo, canção, mal-estar. Mas eles querem é saber de Autores (preferência pelos canônicos, e que não seja precisa soletrar). Tudo bem, eu respondo, até porque a gente sente a gratidão besta de estar ganhando espaço (e, além do mais, eu mesma, leitora de entrevista com letrado, gosto de saber das influências, para encaixar redondinho o sujeito no meu diagrama literário). Acontece que há dois grandes problemas, que muito me atormentam, em responder sobre escritores favoritos e influências potenciais: o primeiro é que espera-se que você cite autores, e não obras. Mas eu não leia autores, eu leio obras. Quer ver? Uma casa no fim do mundo, do Michael Cunningham, está na minha lista de livros arrebatadores e grandes influências. Semana passada, li o último livro do Cunningham, Specimen days. É uma grande, uma imensa porcaria. Li em francês, mas creio que isso não é muito significativo, uma vez que o Cunningham não pode ser considerado um cara que trabalha muito a linguagem, e uma vez que tampouco li Uma casa no fim do mundo no original.
(Cunningham talvez tenha tentado se libertar dos seus temas obsedantes, como homens morrendo de AIDS, mas século XIX e alienígenas caíram muito, muito mal. Não por ser século XIX ou alienígenas, mas porque realmente ele não consegue falar disso com propriedade, nem com aquele percepção tão tocante do humano que a gente vê nas outras obras do cara.)
O segundo problema é que, se você cita tal pessoa, parte-se do princípio que você leu a obra completa dela + bibliografia do sujeito + o diabo a quatro. Como dizer que Woody Allen pode ter sido importante para mim, se eu não vi toda a sua centena de filmes?
De qualquer forma, uma frase escutada numa esquina escura pode dar o tom de toda uma obra.

total, cem% de acordo, não falo sobre Cunningham que nunca li, mas é isso aí. etiqueta de toalha pode ser influência.. E isso que eu cito autores e cineastas e afins como referências (levianamente), mesmo não tendo lido ou visto tudo deles e mesmo achando algumas obras ruins.. mas esse tipo de pergunta acaba mesmo sendo inevitável como ter que cortar unhas e esse teu post respondeu muito bem..

Nossa! Michael Cunningham! Então o problema não foi comigo… Porque eu li primeiro As Horas e fiquei apaixonado, depois comecei Laços de Sangue e vi que precisava ler tudo que pudesse desse autor. E Uma Casa no Fim do Mundo foi realmente o ápice (aliás, li em algum lugar que tinha um filme baseado no livro, vc já viu?). Depois tentei muito ler o Specimen Days: o negócio vai difícil nas duas primeiras partes, mas quando chega aquela bobagem sem fim na terceira não deu…
